Episode 6: Song Review: Fake Love By: Drake
*This is a disclaimer that this will not be a "Nice" Episode. If you happen to be a massive of Drake and won't hear one ounce of critism about him, then you might not want to look at the rest of the blog. You have been warned.*

*Sigh* I guess I can't really leave 2016 without mentioning Drake at some point. This guy was everywhere, more than he was in 2015. It was at the point where we went beyond Overexposure. This wouldn't be a problem if the material he brings out is actually good. But......*Sigh*
I want to start by saying that I do believe that Drake has talent. He has made songs I do like as "Forever", "Take Care" with Rihanna, "Hold On, We're going Home", "Energy" and "Back to Back". Even his verse in Nicki Minaj"Moment 4 Life" is well done. But since 2013, the quality started to drop big time. Songs like "Headlines" and "The Motto" were mediocre brag songs, but it was "Started from the Bottom" that started the drop. It was clear that he just did not care anymore. His performances started to sound half-ass and it got old fast. To compare, Drake has become the Adam Sandler of music *Movie Adam Sandler that is* when he started decent and was fun, but eventually, it got bad. But for some reason, people kept buying what he is saying and Drake stayed popular and would not leave. I could name some of the topics Drake uses over and over in his songs.
The Drake Lyric Topics List
1. He Brags how awesome he is.
2. His problems with woman.
3. His friends are 'Fake'
4. Attacking other artists for some reason "Meek Mill and Kid Cudi for big examples"
and it is usually those topics that are used most of the time. It would be fine if it was interesting and he was giving effort. But it was not the case most of the time and especially in his recent studio album "Views" with minimal production, little effort in his vocals when he is doing rap or R&B. And everyone think he is the biggest thing in music. We had the singles "Hotline Bling", "One Dance", "Too Good", "Controlla", "Pop Style", and his part in Rihanna's "Work" where they all hit the top 20 in the hot 100. And I can't recommend any of them. And he will most likely hit 20 or 30% on the year end list for this year. *Sigh*
Ok, enough ranting, I'm here to look at his recent top 20 hit "Fake Love" from his most recent Mixtape "More Life", as if we needed more of him. Let's see how he performs his send off from 2016. Can he end on a high note? Let's find out...starting with.........
The Production:
This might be the best part of the song with a bit of a reggae vibe. Interesting that reggae has become a trend this year with Arianna Grande and Young Thug going that as well. The production isn't better then when those 2 did it, but it is ok at most. Even if it sounds like a reject from the "Views" album.
The Performer:
Before I say anything about the vocals here, I want to say when Drake decides to sing, usually he is quite good. Look at "Hold On, we're going Home", and even "Find your Love" for examples. You can even tell at least Drake is trying and doesn't sound like he just got out of bed. But OH MY GOD, What the F**k am I listening to? This is the performance I expect from Young Thug or Rich Homie Quan *Anyone remember this guy?*, I mean this has to be the worst performance I have ever heard Drake give. Drake, you are at the top of the game already, why are you sounding like b list artists that wish that can sound like that. And what is up with all the yelling in the song? If it didn't work in Chris Brown's "Run It", then it 100% doesn't work here. I don't know what else to say. Drake's vocals suck, it is something I can use to torture someone. Next category.
The Lyrics:
Well it looks like we are going to #3 in The Drake Lyric Topic List. The Fake Friends topic and......wait a minute, is he talking about his fans? He is talking about people that look up to him and that they show fake love. Just in the hook alone, it sounds like he is dissing the fans that made him popular to begin with. Notice that he never uses words like "She" or "Her" and he says "They" and "You" as in the listener. Oh great, it's the One Direction thing all over again. Then there's lines like "Somethin' ain't right when we talkin', and "Look like you hidin' your problems." How is that being fake? It's called being a human being. We all have problems and sometimes we don't want to say them out loud. Maybe it's things they can't control and don't want to say anything. Maybe they don't want to make things depressing and wants things to be happy and positive. Usually I'd complain that Drake calls people fake and doesn't explain why, but here he is giving reasons and it is just pathetic. But then again, what do you expect from someone that told a girl be "A Good girl' and stay at home because she was in the zone.
Final Conclusion:
Remember when I said that Drake was Movie Adam Sandler of music? Well this is the "Jack and Jill" of Drake's songs. The bottom of the barrel. His worst song to date.
Ranking: 1/10
One out of F**king Ten.
It may be too late for me to put this song in the worst songs of this years list. But it a good chance for 2017. The production is nothing special, the lyrics are just terrible, and the worst thing about it is Drake himself. It is bad when I would rather listen to Camilla Cabello, Andrew Taggert, Rebecca Black, and Sam Smith *Sorry, I don't like his voice, Don't Kill me.* for 5 hours straight then to listen to him perform in this song again. This is straight up audio torture.
I would apologize if this episode is more of a angry ranting one, but at this point, in Drake's Career and he is putting out songs with the same Drake Clichés over and over, putting little to no effort and now sounding like artists that are not even as half as big as him, this is Completly Unacceptable. I just feel insulted when listening to it. I can't apologize as people need to hear this as this is who made the biggest star right now.
If you guys like this song, good for you. This is just my opinion and what I see this song as. And now, I need to listen to someone else before I go insane.
See you all next week where I give you my least favourite hit songs of 2016. Bye now.
